ISE-2017

The International Environmental Symposium (ISE) is the first international scientific event organized by the Environmental Engineering Career of the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Cuenca, Ecuador. The main objective is to create the space and the ideal conditions to present, discuss and exchange ideas, on the latest research results of some of the most relevant scientists from Latin America and the world, in the different areas of the environmental sciences.

In this first edition we will have as special guests, scientists, specialists in the area of ionizing radiations. They will present their progress, through workshops and lectures, on topics as:

• Ionizing Radiation Physics.

• Nuclear Radiation Detectors.

• Environmental Dosimetry and Applications.

• Radiological Protection.

• Applications of the Ionizing Radiation in Medicine and Industry.

• Effects of the Ionizing Radiation on the Environment.

•Environment sciences in general.

It is important to highlight the relevance of this area of the science, following the recent nuclear accidents, such as Chernobyl and Fukushima, as well as the effects on soils and agricultural products by the massive use of phosphate fertilizers, and the various accidents occurring in the area of medicine and industry with radioactive sources, and thousands of deaths from lung cancer worldwide, due to the inhalation of radon, among others.
